Science for Decision Making

The Benefits to Society of Reducing Uncertainty

Current pressures for balanced land and water management, concerns about recovery from natural disaster and protection of environmental quality, and desires to restore and preserve ecosystems demand a new role for scientific information. Such issues may involve diverse and apparently conflicting economic, political, social, and aesthetic interests and values. Under these conditions interdisciplinary research and information derived from natural and social science data can provide tools that contribute to both policy analysis and decision making.

This will be the 314th meeting since 1954.
